There are three major reasons why it doesn’t happen and stops midway when you try to update the software updates in your Tesla. I’ll explain why in this article so you know the cause.
Here are three reasons you have a stuck software update in your Tesla.
- Poor network connection.
- More data is needed.
- Software malfunction.
#1. Poor Network Connection
A common problem you have with a stuck software update while updating your Tesla is because of the network you are connected to while updating.
The cause of your poor network connection can be that your vehicle is far from the network it is connected to while downloading.
So this causes the download to freeze halfway since the updates download requires a strong and stable internet connection to continue.
Sometimes, the network problem can be because many other people are also using the internet at the same time you are.
That reduces the internet speed and can cause your update to freeze.
It can also be the number of devices connected to your network slowing down the internet speed or no network is available or detected.
#2. More Data Is Needed
Another reason you are stuck with a software update might be your data.

#1. Internet Connection
One of the ways to trigger your stuck Tesla software update is to connect your vehicle to Wi-Fi with a strong connection. Connecting to a poor network will disrupt the download.
#2. Reboot Your Car
You can restart your software update after rebooting your car. Rebooting your car can work if your screen is stuck while downloading the updates and you can’t do anything.
However, if there’s a glitch in the system, even after rebooting your vehicle, you might be unable to restart the download.

#1. Restarting Your Touchscreen (Soft Reboot)
You do this reset if you have a frozen touchscreen. It just resets the screen and not other things in your Tesla; you can restart your update after a soft reboot.
You can do a soft reset by;
- Putting your vehicle in park.
- Hold down the brake pedal.
- Hold down both scroll wheels and the buttons above them.
